North of Berkeley is this little trio of cities, each with an assortment of special features that includes a gorgeous climate and attractive residential neighborhoods.

Albany:

This neighborhood possesses much natural beauty, with an affluence of green spaces, playgrounds and gardens, as well as popular Solano Avenue — its thriving main artery  — featuring antique shops, cafes, florists and ethnic restaurants. Albany’s schools are highly renowned. Architecture in this city is varied and vibrant, from California and Crafstman bungalows to Mediterranean-style homes and the fantastic early cottages of C.M. MacGregor.

El Cerrito:

This is a charming and tidy city within Contra Costa County, which has a recently remodeled recreation and community center, a historic movie theatre, a year-round farmer’s market in its bustling plaza, and beautiful views of the Bay. The neighborhoods within it feature a variety of dwellings, from stately to more modest, with leafy streets and hillsides. El Cerrito has a great amount of trails for hiking and walking, and proudly enjoys some of the most stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Kensington:

This is a tranquil little community also in Contra Costa County, with peaceful parks and botanical gardens, two shopping districts that encompass boutiques, restaurants and gourmet shops, and homes reminiscent of those in the Berkeley Hills. The elementary school in Kensington is one of the best in the entire region. The glorious Tilden Park offers a myriad of leisure activities for its residents, and the views from Kensington’s neighborhoods can be majestic.
